Time Line

History: Tracing Nearly 100 Years

1913: Brotherhood of All Railway Workers is founded on January 13, operating out of a one-desk office in downtown Chicago.

1917: The organization adopts a new name, Benefit Association of Railway Employees (B.A.R.E.).

1922: B.A.R.E. becomes a mutual insurance company, owned by its policyowners.

1923: The Company purchases its first home office building in Chicago's uptown.

1929: The Company signs up its first group insurance holder outside the railroad industry.

1945: The life insurance department is established.

1963: The Company celebrates its 50th anniversary and changes its name to Benefit Trust Life Insurance Company.

1964: Ever expanding, new company headquarters are built near Chicago's north lakefront.

1985: Star Marketing and Administration (Starmark) becomes a distinct marketing organization for small group plans.

1986: The Company contracts with Private Healthcare Systems, Inc. (PHCS) to implement managed care products and programs.

1989: A prairie-school inspired structure in Lake Forest, IL becomes new corporate headquarters.

1994: Benefit Trust Life Insurance Company changes its name to Trustmark Insurance Company.

1995: Assets surpass the $1 billion mark.

1997: The Company acquires CoreSource, a leading third-party claims administration organization.

2001: Trustmark purchases National Worksite Benefits, Inc. (NWB) and National Worksite Advantage, Inc. (NWA), which become part of Trustmark Voluntary Benefit Solutions.

2002: Trustmark and the Tooling & Manufacturing Association (TMA) mark 50-year business relationship. CoreSource acquires Corporate Benefit Services (CBS), of Little Rock, Ark., and FMH Benefit Services of Overland Park, Kan.

2005: Dave McDonough named Trustmark President and CEO.

2006: CoreSource completes one of its largest acquisitions, purchasing St. Clair Shores, Mich.-based NGS American, Inc. Trustmark marks fifth consecutive year of record earnings.

2007: Trustmark receives "A" category ratings from both Fitch Ratings and A.M. Best.

2008: Trustmark celebrates 95 years in the insurance industry.
