ABOUT USIn The NewsCrain's Chicago Business Health Debate Includes Trustmark Companies' Opinion on ReformLake Forest, Ill. April 17, 2009 – Trustmark spoke up when Crain’s Chicago Business asked local insurers and healthcare providers for their opinions on the state of healthcare and the proposals taking shape in Washington, D.C. On April 6, 2009, Crain’s Chicago Business magazine featured a special "Focus on Healthcare" section, spotlighting the current health debate and response to President Barack Obama’s pitch for healthcare reform. Within the section, a special "Voices" page appeared, in which David McDonough, President and CEO, Trustmark, as well as other health executives, weighed in on reform. Trustmark Companies is a national health and life insurer, benefits administrator and consumer health advisor, based in Lake Forest. "I’m in favor of maintaining the employer-based system but also finding a way of getting the 46 million or so people who are uninsured insured," said McDonough. "They should have insurance if they want it, and they should have insurance even if they don’t want it, because they should be contributing to the overall cost." According to McDonough, taking a balanced view on healthcare reform, bringing understanding to economic issues, and working to help educate our political representatives on the health insurance industry’s strengths and contributions to society are his personal priorities. "My biggest fear is that ideology gets ahead of economics and that what is politically expedient gets enacted without enough thought to the economics," McDonough said.
