ABOUT USIn The NewsTrustmark Companies and Employees Get Involved in Haitian ReliefLAKE FOREST, Ill. Jan. 28, 2010 – To help recovery effort and bring aid to survivors, the Trustmark Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Lake Forest, Ill.-based Trustmark Companies, is donating $10,000 to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. As a response to the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, the Foundation split its contribution between AmeriCares and the American Red Cross. Trustmark employees are also being encouraged to contribute privately and were provided a list of contacts for additional organizations getting aid directly to the Haitian people, including CARE, Direct Relief International, Doctors Without Borders, International Medical Corps, Mercy Corps, Yele Haiti, UNICEF and Freedom from Hunger. Trustmark’s Chairman, J. Grover Thomas Jr., also serves as Chair on the Board of Trustees for Freedom from Hunger, an international development organization. Freedom from Hunger is responding to the Haitian disaster by channeling donations to ACLAM (Action Contre La Misère), its Haitian partner since 2000. According to Christopher Dunford, President of Freedom from Hunger, 100 percent of donations during this crisis go directly to ACLAM to fund immediate relief and rebuilding efforts, using none of the funds for administrative costs. “Freedom from Hunger has inspired, moved and caused me to devote my energy and emotion to its mission,” said Thomas. “It made me search my heart about the gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ in the world.” Thomas also served for several years on Freedom from Hunger’s Ambassador Council, which is co-chaired, by Jane Pauley and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Freedom from Hunger provides business loans combined with education in business management, health and nutrition to more than 800,000 women in 16 countries. www.freedomfromhunger.org About The Trustmark Foundation About The Trustmark Companies [Back to Press Release List] |
